A variety of Moray eels are the most commonly encountered. There are many other species of eels sometimes seen by divers. These include Snake Eels, Garden Eels, Ribbon Eels and Conger Eels.
Although they look ferocious, most Eels will retreat when approached, hiding in crevices in the coral reef or in the case of snake and garden eels will burrow into the sand. With rare exceptions, Eels are nocturnal hunters, preying on small fish and crustaceans.
